The magazine is designed by a partner of Pentagram, Domenic Lippa and is a fantastic publication for its attention to detail and the way it is produced. The main idea for the magazine is for the content to speak for itself without the need for editorial typography.
For this project, I need too create a supplement for the Typographic Circle which is about talks given by renowned designers, writers and typographers.
The magazine tries to be quite expressive with its use of type, using a variety of styles throughout its pages, so its important that I think more creatively about how to use type and lay it out on the page. One of the requirements is also that I don't take any inspiration from the designers themselves, but rather create something original and distinctive and it'll also need to be obviously affiliated with Circular.
The latest copy of the magazine used as little editorial typography as possible with any text needed to explain pieces found on the sleeve of the magazine. The contents of the magazine was full of a bold variety of type styles, complex and minimalistic designs, colours, photographs, Illustrations and shapework, I think its particularly interesting for me to not that I can basically be as creative as I like with how I use type in the spreads I will create.
