Graphic Design before Graphic Designers

One opinion I hold about Graphic Design, and I suppose design in general, is that theres absolutely no point in designing anything unless you make an effort to learn about the history of it, how we got to this stage and why we do it this way. Not just the technicality of all things, but the social and environmental changes through history, how they have impacted design, and brought us to where we are today.

David Jury's book charts the development of Print to Graphic Design between 1700-1914. It has 800 illustrations full of engravings, posters, signs, illustrations and more. I think its a must for anyone interested in Graphic Design.
