Newcastle College Staff Bistro - Branding Project

Final Logo Design

In this project, I was tasked with rebranding the Staff Bistro at Rye Hill. I had create a new logo as well as a stationary set and a menu design. Before I got to this stage however I had to research and develop ideas. I researched a variety of logos evaluating their merits and disadvantages, doing this helped me to get a real of idea of the effort that goes into creating something which markets a brand in the right way and give it the identity it is looking for.

Early design ideas

After initial designs, I began to develop my work digitally in Adobe Illustrator.

Some digital idea development

I decided that the best font to use was Helvetica for its clean sophisticated appearance. In hindsight I realised I should have perhaps expanded my search of types. I did try a few other types, but to achieve the best possible result I should have developed them further rather than deciding early on what I wanted to use. I developed the Pizza slice design, simplifying it by taking away the mesh tool gradient I added, and using  heavier weight of Helvetica, using two different weights to emphasise the 'eat' in the name.

Afterwards I then created a range of stationary to go along with the new logo, like the logo I went for clean distinctive designs.

Looking back I was pleased with my final outcome, I felt it was sophisticated and distinctive, and had the capacity to be adaptable, but I do feel I could have looked more at choosing colours and types by experimenting more. In the future I will have a better idea about developing designs and knowing how far to take an idea before I ever keep it or disregard it.
